How is my UIF deduction calculated?

You want to know how the UIF on your payslip is calculated.

You will notice on your payslip that there are always two UIF amounts that are the same. The first will be a deduction from your gross salary, and the second is the UIF amount that the organisation you are working for is contributing on your behalf.

UIF is calculated at 2% of your gross remuneration, 1% paid by you as a deduction and the other 1% paid by your employer on your behalf. 1% is, however, limited to R177.12. This means that if your remuneration exceeds R17,712 per month, your UIF contribution will not increase.

Certain remuneration items, i.e. commission, are excluded from calculated your gross remuneration for the calculation of UIF.
